Cygnet

We are proud to provide the Cygnet parenting support programme for parents and carers of autistic children and young people aged 5-18.

Parents of autistic children face the usual positive and difficult challenges of parenting and quite a few more. Attending Cygnet gives parents and carers an opportunity to develop their understanding of autism and look at practical solutions to support their child.

It also provides the opportunity to meet other people in a similar position and hear about their experiences in an informal but supportive atmosphere.

“It really has been amazing working with you. I’ve learnt so many things from you to be able to help and support my son and myself. I’m truly grateful.” KT DECEMBER 2022

What will happen in the course

Each course has 7 weekly sessions (term-time only) which last 2 ½ hours each. Some will be face to face and some purely online, using Zoom.  So, you choose what fits in with your lifestyle and needs.

Face to Face will take place in venues either in Patchway, Kingswood or Yate with a mix of morning, afternoon or evening courses. Venues will be announced when booking is live. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

Online sessions will take place on Zoom with a link sent which will be the same for all of your course dates. Again, you have a mix of morning, afternoon or evening courses to choose.

There will be a presentation and resources sent out before each session, so you get a chance to consider topics and your own experiences beforehand. Notes will be sent out after.

Sessions can draw heavily on your experiences and participation. We understand that this can sometimes be emotional. If you’re comfortable to input your own experiences as a parent / care of a child with autism it’s perfectly acceptable to share those and can be therapeutic.

This course is funded by South Gloucestershire Council.
