What we do

The playscheme is designed to support children in the local area to play and learn in the presence of others in a safe and child-friendly environment.

Noisy, outdoor fun making friends

It’s all about fun and encouraging the children and young people to learn and develop their skills through playing with others. Many of the activities undertaken encourage learning and creative play.

Each location differs, but we pride ourselves on inspiring children with a mix of activities including:

  • Creativity and crafts
  • Performing arts
  • Team play and puzzles
  • Sports
  • Outdoor and indoor games
  • Dressing up

Halloween Half Term Free Family Drop-In Sessions

In October we held free family activity sessions at Patchway / Charlton Hayes, Kingswood and Yate. It’s was for the whole family to have some fun, crafts, games and refreshments. Parents or grandparents came with their children and played for any length of time.

Here are some lovely photos of our Halloween family drop-in play sessions:

“Just a quick note to say how much T & E enjoyed their time at Little Stoke today! T in particular is obsessed with the bloodhound, planes, engines so this made his day :-) ”
‘Thank you very much for your hard work. It has been an amazing experience for the children!’

Our staff bring different play skills

Each location has a team leader with three play workers who bring different skills to their group. So when we recruit staff to the play-scheme, we try and spread this skill base around so that all sites are equipped with a variety of skilled staff.

However, it may be worth checking out different locations to see how they do things differently or to experience their approach to dance, sport, painting and games.

Youth Work Training Opportunities at the Playscheme

Having fun, qualified and professional Youth Workers running the play sessions is the corner stone of what we do.

This is why we also deliver Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles and Level 3 Diploma Youth Work Practice courses, which are accredited by the NOCN – National Open College Network.  In fact, 17 learners have already passed the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles with some continuing on to the Level 3 Diploma. “‘Thank you so much for all your hard work.  All the staff were lovely and supportive on the days my boys attended’.

South Gloucestershire Playscheme is a small charity that values its staff.  Our staff work hard and deserve to be paid accordingly.  Working with children can be challenging at times, but can be rewarding too.  The pay should also be rewarding.
